Bruce-Monroe Elementary School at Park View

In her application, Principal Bustillo wrote, “…our school community stands on the shoulders of  the rich history of different cultural and racial groups who fought tirelessly to ensure that BMPV remained a school that was open, welcoming, inclusive, and supported in their ability to serve the entire community.”

During the 2023-2024 school year, BMPV 4th grade students met as an after school club to research the history of their school and uncover the stories of their community. They interviewed past teachers, principals, and alumni. Research continued during  the 2024 – 2025 school year, as we worked with the school to engage more long-time community members to ensure all voices were represented. Check out this video to see the students participating in the program!

Now completed, Five Schools, Una Comunidad Conectada: The Story of Bruce-Monroe Elementary School at Park View invites the school community to come together, learn, and be inspired. Exhibit visitors are able to experience BMPV’s history through the words of those who experienced it – how five very distinct schools merged to become one. The exhibit is bilingual (Spanish / English).

In partnership with the school, we hosted an exhibit reveal event in October 2025.
