In their application, Bunker Hill Elementary School wrote, “…we are a community of celebration and learning. The multicultural school is located in the historically Black Michigan Park neighborhood and welcomes all neighbors into its rich history and community. Bunker Hill is currently undergoing modernization efforts and is dedicated to anchoring itself within the neighborhood while celebrating its story.”

Bunker Hill Elementary School
Our project is underway and led by Ms. Chrissy Macken, PTO president. Bunker Hill 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders are researching the history of their school and uncovering the stories of their community. You can learn more about their program here. Using the students’ findings and photographs from alumni, we will create a permanent, museum-quality exhibit that shares their “school story” with the broader community. The school is going through a modernization renovation from summer 2027 – summer 2029, so the exhibit will be tentatively installed in fall of 2029.
