Garrison is “one of the fastest growing schools in the District… as gentrification continues to displace those who have historically called the neighborhood home.” Garrison is “working with intention to foster trusting relationships across difference that are rooted in mutual respect for Garrison’s history and existence as a proud Title I school.” We are excited to run a program that documents their shared history and amplifies the voices within the school’s unique community!
Garrison Elementary School
Our partnership will begin in the fall of 2024 with students in the 5th grade. During their social studies class, our program will empower students to research the history of their school and uncover the stories of their surrounding community. We will then create a permanent, museum-quality exhibit that shares their “school story” with the broader community. This exhibit is slated to be installed in the school’s main lobby in the fall of 2025.
