Ross Elementary School

In her application, Principal Searl wrote, “…Ross students, faculty and staff represent the rich cultural and racial diversity of our city, and Ross is a safe and inclusive place for all families, especially LGBTQ+ families.” They would like to run the SOOS program because “Ross has a long history in Dupont Circle that should be known, preserved, and shared widely… [this project] will inspire an even greater commitment to the preservation…and provide past, present and future students and their families a sense of pride.”

Our project is underway and led by Ms. Lisa Juriga, Ross librarian. Ross 4th graders are researching the history of their school and uncovering the stories of their community. You can learn more about their program here. Using the students’ findings, we will create a permanent, museum-quality exhibit that shares their “school story” with the broader community. This exhibit will be installed in  the fall of 2026.
